Fair Trade Vancouver (FTV) works to advance equality, social justice and environmental sustainability by promoting a system which respects producers and artisans around the world. The Event:
The 2nd annual Holiday Fair– to be held on December 3rd this year – serves as a key fundraising and awareness-building event for FTV. This multi-faceted market will combine a variety of Fair Trade vendors, distributors, non-profits, performers, and community members who are striving to empower consumers by raising their general awareness regarding Fair Trade while celebrating the success of the past year.
Structure:
There are 3 components of the Holiday Fair:
1. An all -day Vendor Market
2. An Evening Awards Gala and
3. A post-gala Party with bands.
Location:
This year, the Holiday Fair will take place in the Cantu building at 196 Kingsway (between Main, Broadway, Kingsway and 10th) in Vancouver.
Required Qualifications:
• Significant experience in project management (professional certification an asset)
• Strong organizational, communication and coaching skills
• Past experience as an event organizer and/or volunteer preferred
• Experience in obtaining and working with event sponsors is desirable.
Estimated Time Commitment:
Average of 4 to 6 hours per week (including a commitment to attend the weekly FTV meeting at our downtown office each Monday at 6:30 PM) with potential increase leading up to the Fair on December 3.
Expected Start Date: ASAP (Oct 2011) Expected End Date: Dec 3, 2011
Scope of Work:
The volunteer PM will work closely with the FTV team, particularly the Executive Director, President and Finance Director, in addition to members of the Marketing/PR team. The scope of the project will include developing a project plan for preparing for and executing the event, and actively supporting the ED in managing the schedule, budget and resources from project initiation through to close out.
Deliverables:
1. A comprehensive project plan for the Holiday Fair (incorporating key lessons learned from last year)
2. Weekly project management leading up to the tournament on December 3. This will include such logistics as fundraising, ticket sales, day-of execution, rental needs, volunteer coordination (done in tandem with an existing Coordinator) decorating, visitor engagement, food and beverage, et cetera.
3. Post-event lessons learned session.
Accountability:
The PM will be responsible to the following individuals:
1. Sean McHugh, ED who will act as the liaison for the Vendor Market.
2. Avery Gottfried (FTV President) who will act as the liaison for the Awards Gala.
3. Kelli Erikson (FTV Finance), who will act as the liaison for the Party.
Benefits: FTV will provide a letter of recommendation at the successful conclusion of the project, and serve as a reference if appropriate.
